What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulator made by Galderma. It's made of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material that has been used in medicine for decades. Instead of filling a line or hollow with gel, Sculptra prompts your skin to build its own collagen, the protein that gives younger skin its firmness and fullness.
Sculptra has been FDA-approved for aesthetic use since 2009, to correct smile lines (nasolabial folds) and other facial wrinkles. In 2023 the FDA also approved it for fine lines and wrinkles in the cheeks.
How Does Sculptra Work?
We start losing collagen in our mid-20s, and the loss speeds up with age, sun, and weight changes. The result is hollower cheeks and temples, deeper smile lines, and skin that looks thinner and less firm.
When Sculptra is placed under the skin, its microparticles signal your body to produce new collagen around them. Over the next few months that collagen gradually rebuilds structure where you've lost it. Because the change happens slowly and comes from your own tissue, the result looks natural, and it lasts much longer than most fillers.
What Can Sculptra Treat?
Sculptra is best for gradual volume loss and overall facial aging rather than one specific line. Your injector may recommend it for:
Hollow cheeks: restores the soft fullness that flattens with age
Smile lines: softens the folds from your nose to the corners of your mouth
Cheek wrinkles: smooths fine lines and crepey texture across the cheeks
Temples: fills hollowing at the sides of the forehead
Jawline and lower face: adds structure where skin has started to loosen
Overall facial volume: a subtle, full-face refresh that builds over time
Looking for instant volume in one area, like the lips? Dermal filler or lip filler may be a better fit.
Sculptra vs. Dermal Filler
Both restore volume, but they work in very different ways.
Sculptra
Builds your own collagen over time
Results appear gradually over a few months
Lasts up to 2 years or more
Best for overall volume loss and skin quality
Can't be dissolved
Hyaluronic Acid Filler
Adds volume with a gel right away
Results are visible the same day
Lasts about 6 to 18 months, depending on the product and area
Best for lips, specific lines, and contouring
Can be dissolved if needed
Many of our clients combine the two: filler for an instant lift in one area, and Sculptra for long-lasting support across the face.
What to Expect at Your Sculptra Appointment
Your first visit starts with a consultation. Your injector will look at your face from every angle, talk about what bothers you, and plan how many sessions and vials you're likely to need.
On treatment day, your skin is cleansed and numbing can be used for comfort. Sculptra is placed with a fine needle or cannula in a series of small injections, and the area is massaged right afterward so it spreads evenly. You can go back to most of your normal routine the same day.
Expect some fullness, tenderness, or bruising at first. The early fullness is mostly fluid and goes down within a few days, so don't judge your result in the mirror that week. Your real result develops over the next few months.
Your Sculptra Results Timeline
Right after treatment: some fullness from fluid and swelling
First few days: swelling goes down and the area may look close to how it did before
6 to 8 weeks: new collagen starts to show as smoother, fuller skin
4 to 6 months: full results after your series is complete
Up to 2 years or more: results fade slowly, and a touch-up keeps them going
Sculptra Aftercare
The most important part of Sculptra aftercare is massage. Follow the 5-5-5 rule: massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Your injector will show you how before you leave.
Early fullness is temporary; your true result develops over about 3 months
Swelling, tenderness, and bruising are normal and fade over several days
Call us right away if you notice significant pain, skin color changes near the area, vision changes, fever, or chills

Sculptra FAQs
How much does Sculptra cost in Huntington?
Sculptra is $720 per vial for Beauty Bank members and $800 per vial for non-members. Most people need more than one vial and a series of sessions, and your injector will give you an exact plan and price at your consultation. New patients get 10% off their first visit.
How long does Sculptra last?
Sculptra results can last up to 2 years or more. Because it helps your skin rebuild its own collagen, the improvement fades slowly rather than all at once.
How many Sculptra treatments will I need?
Most clients need a short series of sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number depends on how much volume you've lost and the result you want, and your injector will map it out with you at your consultation.
When will I see results from Sculptra?
You'll notice some fullness right away, but that's mostly fluid and settles within a few days. Real results start to show in 6 to 8 weeks as new collagen forms, with full results at about 4 to 6 months.
What is the 5-5-5 rule after Sculptra?
Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. It helps the product spread evenly as it starts working. Your injector will show you exactly how to do it before you leave.
What's the difference between Sculptra and dermal filler?
Dermal filler adds volume right away using a hyaluronic acid gel. Sculptra works more slowly by stimulating your own collagen, so results build gradually and last longer. Many clients use both, and your injector will recommend the right mix for your face.
Can Sculptra be dissolved?
No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, Sculptra can't be dissolved. That's why it's placed conservatively over a series of visits, and why choosing an experienced injector matters.
Does Sculptra hurt?
Most clients describe it as mild pressure and a quick pinch. Your injector can use numbing to keep you comfortable, and most appointments are quick.
