HydraFacial has no downtime for most people, so the prep and aftercare are simple. A few steps before and after your visit help your skin hold on to the serums and stay calm while it settles. New to HydraFacial? See how it works.

Pre-care
Before your HydraFacial
1 week before
- Skip waxing, threading, and hair removal creams on your face.
- Avoid tanning and sunburn, and wear SPF every day.
3 days before
- Stop retinoids (retinol, tretinoin, Retin-A) and exfoliating acids (glycolic, salicylic, AHA, BHA).
The day before
- Shaving is fine. Do it the day before, not the morning of your appointment.
The day of your facial
- If you have a sunburn, broken skin, or an active cold sore, call us to reschedule.
- Getting Botox or filler at the same visit? We do your facial first.
Please tell us
- If you have taken Accutane in the last 6 months, or if you are pregnant or nursing.
- About any medications you take. Do not stop any prescribed medication unless your prescribing healthcare provider tells you it is safe to do so.
- If you had Botox or filler in the last 2 weeks. Your facial should wait until those 2 weeks have passed.
Post-care
After your treatment
What to expect
- A pink glow that usually fades within a few hours.
- Your skin may feel a little more sensitive than usual for 1 to 3 days.
- Most clients go right back to work or their plans the same day.
For the first 24 hours
- Wash your hands with soap and water for 60 seconds before you wash your face or apply any products.
- Give your skin the rest of the day off from makeup so it can absorb the serums. If you need coverage, a light mineral powder is the gentlest choice.
- No workouts, saunas, steam rooms, or hot yoga. You can get back to your workouts after 24 hours.
- Sleep on a fresh pillowcase the night of your treatment.
For 48 hours
- No retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, or at-home peels.
- No waxing on your face.
- Stay out of strong sun as much as you can.
Keeping your glow
- Wear SPF 30 or higher every morning. We like Alastin HydraTint and Revision Intellishade.
- Most clients come back about every 4 weeks. Your esthetician may suggest a different schedule for your skin.
Call us if you notice
- Broken skin, blistering, or crusting
- A rash, hives, or redness that lasts more than 48 hours
- Signs of infection: increasing pain, warmth, pus, or fever
